Motherwell News

Saturday, 10th April 2010:

Post-split fixtures announced

Sat 10 Apr
Motherwell will end the season with three away games and two home matches after the split. With Hearts winning today the SPL released the remaining matches and it is bound to be a tense period for all concerned…
Previously:

Pettigrew scores for Scotland

Wed 07 Apr
With no game coming up this weekend, it seems the ideal time to remember some past glory. It was 34 years ago to this day Willie Pettigrew made his debut for Scotland and made history by scoring after only two minutes on the park!

Split ahead!

Mon 05 Apr
Love it or loathe it, the SPL split is almost upon us. The precise make up of the top and bottom sections will not be certain until the last round of fixtures but we can try to anticipate Motherwell's last five games in season 2009/10.

Falkirk - 24h on

Sun 04 Apr
Oh dear. It might be a bit soon to suggest that Brown's bubble has burst but it has at least suffered a severe knock. At least we can be grateful that we made top six safety before the recent defeats.

Team lineups: Motherwell v Falkirk 03 Apr 2010

Sat 03 Apr
Confirmation of the starting eleven and substitutes named for this afternoon's fixture at home to Falkirk.
Older articles:

Next up - Falkirk

Thu 01 Apr
Training will be a little different to usual this week as Craig Brown will have to lift heads after a defeat rather than keep feet on the ground after a win. It is vital we bounce back against bottom club Falkirk at Fir Park on Saturday.

Motherwell record first loss in six years

Thu 01 Apr
The failure of Setanta, pitch repairs and failure to reach the top six last season are said to be the main agents leading to a loss of £700,000 for the year ending in May 2009. The club expects to be back in the black for the current year.

Two more years for Hammell

Tue 30 Mar
Motherwell FC has announced that Stevie Hammell has signed a two year contract as Craig Brown sets about building a team for next season. On Monday five young players put pen to paper, it has been a busy start to the week!

Bring a pal on Saturday

Mon 29 Mar
The club is hoping that its latest drive to increase attendances bears fruit with the 'bring a friend' scheme on Saturday. Season tickets holders have the chance to introduce a guest as we take on Falkirk.

United - 24h on

Sun 28 Mar
We can be grateful that it has been some time since Motherwell fans have had to pick over the bones of a defeat but the inevitable end to the unbeaten run has come.

Team lineups: Dundee United v Motherwell 27 Mar 2010

Sat 27 Mar
Confirmation of the starting eleven and substitutes named for this afternoon's fixture away to Dundee United.

Ravenscraig facility only months away

Thu 25 Mar
The report in the Wishaw Press that Craig Brown and Gordon Young had been inspecting the emerging Regional Sports Centre in the Ravenscraig development persuaded me to dig out the camera and have a look.

Next up - Dundee United

Thu 25 Mar
Motherwell travel to Tannadice on Saturday for a third v fourth clash in the SPL. The Steelmen, now certain of a top six finish, will be hoping to maintain their good form and leapfrog United.

Davie Cooper Remembered

Tue 23 Mar
Fifteen years ago today we lost Davie Cooper. He is still fondly remembered by all Scottish football fans.

We won the cup - at Tannadice!

Mon 22 Mar
Motherwell fans will make their way to Dundee at the weekend hoping to take three points to boost our league tally but only a lucky few will remember when they made the journey to Tannadice and returned with the Summer Cup.

No harm done

Sat 20 Mar
As Motherwell rested, our competitors failed to make the best of their chances and no damage was done to our league position. Next week's clash at Tannadice takes on huge significance.

Bring a pal to Fir Park when The Bairns visit

Thu 18 Mar
The club's latest initiative to encourage attendance at Fir Park is a "bring a friend for free" day on Saturday 3 April when Falkirk come to town. Voucher F will open the turnstile for a guest when accompanied by the season ticket holder.

This weekend's fixtures

Wed 17 Mar
Eight SPL teams will be in action this weekend while the Motherwell players engage in some serious rest and recreation. Three of the fixtures will be of particular interest to the Steelmen. What results do we fancy?

Fifth place for Europe?

Tue 16 Mar
Craig Brown's remarks following the cup semi-final draw were interpreted differently by the various media outlets that latched onto his view that the last Europa League spot should be earned via league performance rather than cup failure.

GLF 74 is available online

Mon 15 Mar
A selection from the latest issue of the GLF is now online. If you missed the paper version from last month you now have a chance to catch up with the regulars from Motherwell's longest running fanzine.

Hearts - 24h on

Sun 14 Mar
Over the years we've had our share of victories over Hearts and we've celebrated the hard fought, competitive battles. Those of us with longer memories still relish wins over them with a special delight. Pity they had no fight in them yesterday.

Team line-ups v Heart of Midlothian

Sat 13 Mar
Confirmation of the starting eleven and substitutes named for this afternoon's fixture at home to Heart of Midlothian.

Next up - Hearts

Thu 11 Mar
We may have turned in a rather flat display against St Mirren on Tuesday night but we edged another point closer to the top six. If we can defeat Hearts on Saturday we will also be looking good for Europe.

Another Step Beyond on Saturday

Wed 10 Mar
Two Fat Ladies as they say at the bingo, issue 88 of the best Motherwell fanzine named after a Madness song....ever is going to be on sale at the Hearts game on Saturday wherever it may be.

St Mirren - 24h on

Wed 10 Mar
"Least said, soonest mended" was the phrase that Craig Brown used to sum up his feelings about the poor display at the new St Mirren Park. There was a hint of embarrassment about our performance but some satisfaction that the unbeaten run remains.
