Pre-season blow

Fri 18 Jul
Motherwell took a blow in their pre-season preparations when the side lost to the Romanian champions and also suffered a bad injury to Brian McLean.

Motherwell have added a couple of Celtic players to the squad. Kennedy and O'Brien will wear claret and amber for the next few months following an agreement between McGhee and Strachan about a loan spell.

GLF, 68 and going strong

The first edition of this season's Great Leap Forward fanzine will be published at the end of August. While it may not contain as many glossy pages as the new official Steelmen programme it will deliver superb value for money at only £1 per copy.

Uefa Cup: The first draw

The draw for the first qualifying round of the 2008/9 Uefa Cup has been made. The teams involved at this stage in the competition will have to get through two rounds to reach the same pot at Motherwell for the ballot in late August.

$etanta and $PL extend contract

An agreement has been reached between the SPL and Setanta to extend the contract for TV coverage of our games. The current deal expires at the end of this season. $etanta now have the rights for another four years.

McCormack leaves Fir Park

Motherwell fans will not be surprised to learn that Ross McCormack has a new club. Cardif City won his signature and he'll be appearing in the Championship this season.

Clarkson scores on his Scotland debut

Motherwell striker David Clarkson provided Scotland's highlight when we were beaten 3-1 by the Czech republic in Prague. He scored an excellent goal in his debut game. Let's hope it's the first of many.

FIFA gets it right

FIFA has agreed to move towards a 6+5 rule. A minimum of six home players on the park at kick off is the target. There will be problems with European employment last but this must be a move in the right direction.

McGhee to stay at Motherwell

Motherwell have delighted their fans with the announcement that they have come to an agreement with Mark McGhee which will allow him to continue as manager into next season.

Call up for Clarkson

David Clarkson has been called into the Scotland squad for Friday's friendly game in Prague. He joins fellow Motherwell striker Ross McCormack in George Burley's second match in charge of the national team.

Sixty Thousand Salute Phil

A full house at Parkhead enjoyed an afternoon in the sunshine watching a sentimental kick-about between Motherwell and Celtic legends. They came together to pay tribute to Phil O'Donnell and to celebrate the part he played for both teams.

FirParkCorner Prediction League - The Results

It's the end of another season for the FPC prediction league. This was the first season using the current format of the league and there has been a pleasant increase in the participation from the forum.
