Sunday, 21st June 2009:

The search narrows

Sun 21 Jun
Reports suggest that the search for a manager seems to be drawing to a close. Although there has been no official statement from the club it looks likely that a new man might be in the hot seat by the end of the week.

One of the joys of a manager departing is the endless speculation as to his successor. Here's a look at some of the names likely to be mentioned in the coming days.

The king is dead, long live the king

Fri 12 Jun
Mark McGhee has been confirmed as manager of Aberdeen. We now need a new manager, and quickly, but it is apt to remember more haste makes less speed.

Hard times ahead?

Wed 10 Jun
The impending collapse of Setanta will cause club treasurers a problem if, as expected, a drop in income follows. Fears have been expressed that financial ruin may lie in wait for some SPL clubs.

Farewell Mark McGhee

Sun 07 Jun
Last summer we successfully managed to fend off a challenge from Hearts for our manager Mark McGhee but we will not manage a repeat this year. Mark McGhee seems set to join Aberdeen as soon as compensation is agreed.

Season 2008/9 review (2)

Thu 04 Jun
With Motherwell looking more like relegation strugglers than contenders for a European spot many were asking Santa for a turn in fortune as the new year approached. Thankfully, the old guy delivered.

Five officials for the Europa League

Mon 01 Jun
Preparations for what turned out to be our short adventure into the Uefa Cup dominated the build up to season 2008/9 and the early league form suffered as a result.

Managerial madness

Sat 30 May
The news that Mixu Paatelainen has left Hibs has given Motherwell fans further cause for concern over the future of our manager but he may yet decide that life is better at Fir Park.

Football is about glory

Wed 27 May
Motherwell have been given a great chance by being handed a spot in the Europa League next season. There is no reason to concern ourselves with how it will affect domestic form; we have greater goals.

Europa League joy for Motherwell

Tue 26 May
Motherwell will be in the Europa League next season. After an agonising wait, the SFA confirmed the place through the Fair Play table would go to us rather than St Mirren.

Happy birthday Mark

Mon 25 May
Congratulations to Mark McGhee on his 52nd birthday. Will he spend it relaxing at home with family and friends? Will he be got at by poachers from the north? Speculation about McGhee's future is becoming routine and we will know soon if there is truth in reports that he is to take the Dons' job

Kilmarnock - 24h on

Sun 24 May
Few expected Saturday's final fling against Kilmarnock to be a classic and so it transpired. Both teams went through the formalities and though a draw would have been a fair result we can have no complaint that Kilmarnock took all three points.

FPC Prediction League 2008/9 review

Sat 23 May
This year the FirParkCorner Prediction League had the added excitement of European games. This meant that the competition spanned 44 games as Motherwell's roller coaster season went from the high of playing in Europe to the low of losing domestic cup ties to St Mirren and Hamilton.

Fair play league

Thu 21 May
Season 2009/10 draws to a close with a home game against Kilmarnock on Saturday. Neither team can improve on its league position so it could be that both choose to field some young hopefuls.

New defender for Motherwell?

Tue 19 May
Mark McGhee has been searching for a commanding central defender for some time. Has he found his man? Lee Beevers has worn the number 5 shirt at Lincoln City for four years but reports suggest that he may sign a pre-contract agreement and might be at Fir Park next season.

18 years ago today….

Sun 17 May
Does the passage of time make the memory sweeter? Does the recollection of Kirk's winning header in the final or Psycho's rocket in the semi-replay fade with time? Whether you recall the magic day or have to rely on a DVD, no matter. Remember, 18 years ago today Motherwell won the Scottish Cup!

Hamilton : 24 h on

Sun 17 May
Handing out a sound thrashing to our neighbours always puts a smile on our faces but there were other reasons to be cheerful after Saturday's game.

Preview: Hamilton (a)

The season continues to wind down with a trip across the water to Hamilton Accies. It will be a somewhat strange derby as they go hell for leather to stay in the SPL while we try to avoid being unsporting!
