A Reserve Double for Foran

Foran hits the net
The majority of the first half was not particularly exciting. Dundee had more of the ball but for the most part our defence was solid. Barry Johhn Corr had his palms stung with a rasping long range shot but that was his only save.

Terry Butcher was in attendance and he may be concerned at the way Dundee created a couple of good chances from the wing but thankfully they had no killer instinct and screwed the shots well wide.

We picked things up shortly before the break and Richie Foran had a clever shot touched round the post by the Trialist in the Dundee goal. Foran then appeared at the other end to tidy up a Dundee attack and his long ball released Kenny Wright. Wright did well to beat the first man but hesitated a moment too long and gave another defender the chance to clear.

A second half attack
From the start of the second half we appeared to have stepped up a gear but it was Dundee who nearly opened the scoring with a half chance volley which went wide. We then took the lead with a superb team goal. Richie Foran won the ball in the middle of the Dundee half with a thumping tackle and some nice passes threaded the ball to Cowan on the right wing. His deep cross to the back post was met by the flying Foran who did well to get above his marker and head home. Moments later the game was over when Wright skipped past his man and this time produced a final ball – Foran slid home his second.

The game was marred with some heavy tackles from the home players and we eventually finished with a total of three yellow cards. We could have rounded the game off with a final goal in injury time but David Cowan chose to pass with the goal at his mercy and while Coakley managed to turn successfully his shot was beaten away.

All in all a good performance by the second string and a comfortable win. Nobody let the side down but the attitude, energy and all round performance of Richie Foran will keep Clarkson and McDonald on their toes.
