Motherwell came through the vital double header against St Mirren and Dundee with six points and a welcome boost to the team's confidence.   The manager gained an inch as the weight came off his shoulders.

In the space of four days we more than doubled the tally that had been built up over the first nine games of the season.  More important is the seven point lead we now have over eleventh place.

It will be fascinating to see if Stephen Robinson sticks with the altered shape that delivered the goods.  A four man back line does not seem to be the manager's preference but there is no debate about the results.

The arrival of David Turnbull in the first team has long been anticipated by those who have kept an eye on our U20 squad.  Robinson often mentions the need to manage the exposure of our young talent as they step up but many take the view that age is irrelevant.

Turnbull is out of contract at the end of this season.  It must be a priority to get him committed to Fir Park for the next few campaigns.

Another pleasing feature of the last  two matches has been the return to top form of Chris Cadden.  He seems to have returned to full fitness and treated us to several of his trademark runs from defence to attack.  On Wednesday evening he expressed delight at scoring a goal and then lavished praise on his younger colleague tipping him for a place in the young national squad.

We have to face Rangers and Aberdeen before the crazy eight game December arrives.  After last week's good work the team can see out November without the nervous pressure that typified our early season struggles.

Motherwell complete the crucial double
