Dundee Preview

Our last visit (way back in December 2002) produced a one-one draw and we would almost certainly be happy with the same result on Saturday. The Dark Blues beat us by a mile, three-nil, in the season opener at Fir Park to record their only away win so far. They have won three at home. Our statistics are their inverse – we have won one at home and three on the road.

On paper it looks like an interesting game. The home side line up in their last game had a surprising look about it. Names like Wilkie, Smith, Mair, Mackay, McDonald, Burley, Brady and Linn made them look like a Scottish team rather than a collection of hired hands from the Latin world. Still, Speroni, Ravanelli and Novo did start supported by Caballero, Sara and Carranza on the bench.

Burley will be missing following his crazy tackle against Hibs and Nemsadze still has a knee complaint.

There was a time when a match preview about a ‘Well team would argue the pros and cons of personnel and tactics. But of late we have become very predictable. It’s great what a good run does. The team picks itself and injuries seem to disappear.

The prospect of watching Partridge and Craigan containing Ravanelli could be worth the admission money. Two young defenders trying to catch the Silver Fox could prove to be an important factor in determining the result.

Our self belief will be high and the lingering memory of three players scoring at Pittodrie should encourage us to take the game to the home side.

We have every reason to be optimistic and there is every prospect of taking at least a point. Ladbrokes have the draw at 5/2 and that could be worth a punt. 1-1.
