Farewell Chris?

Andy Devlin, a reporter with good sources in Motherwell, broke the story in the Sun and his claim is that Chris will move for £425 000 subject to a medical which will take place today.

Well fans will be sad, but not surprised, to see him go. Porter signed for us in July 2007 and was the first target Mark McGhee brought to the club.

Scott McDonald's place needed to be filled and our new manager felt he knew the man for the job. We managed to lure him away from Dundee United who were strongly tipped to take him from Oldham where his impressive scoring record drew attention.

It was always known that Chris looked on his move to Fir Park as a platform to allow a move to the Championship or better and there is no doubt that his service to Motherwell has earned that prize.

The economics of football dictate that we cannot turn down a transfer fee of that order for a player who would leave for no fee within four months. We can only hope that the manager can find another aspiring talent with ambition and that we can give him a stage.

Wearing the number nine shirt, Chris has scored freely for us and he will be hard to replace. Motherwell fans will wish him good luck if the move goes through and watch with interest as he teams up with Ross McCormack in a partnership we know only too well.
