Inverness Caley Thistle Preview

Inverness stunned Fir Park with an excellent defensive performance to win 1-0 in the Cup quarter final in March. They went on to win the First Division but have since struggled in the SPL. They defeated Dunfermline but have suffered five other losses despite some reasonable performances. Given that this is their first – and possibly only! – genuine home game this season, they will be fired up to play in front of their home crowd and we will have to perform to our best to win.

Another goal for Scott/Dougie/Skippy/Enter new nickname here
But, there is no reason why we should not be confident of doing so. We dismissed a pesky tie at Cappielow in the last round and we have won three out of the last four league games – whilst drawing the other at Dunfermline. There is not a player in the side who currently does not look to be playing well and in Scott McDonald there is no question that we have one of the hottest strikers in Scotland just now.

The League Cup always presents a tricky decision for Terry Butcher. We have a very small squad and the League is always our first concern. Does he rest players in this game to keep them fresh for Livingston on Saturday? Or does he press ahead with the full team in search of a rare piece of silver? Whilst some managers do play the reserves in this situation, Terry seems to recognise value of a good cup run to both the players and fans. It is highly unlikely that any changes will be made voluntarily although it would seem a silly decision to risk Scott Leitch if he is not fully recovered from his shoulder injury.

In the last Inverness preview, we said that if both teams played to their full potential, we would win and the same statement applies here. Let’s just hope the players do the business this time! It will be tough but we will sneak it, 1-2 to the ‘Well.
