Memory lane- 5 years ago

The happenings five years ago are listed here and they stir a few memories for Motherwell fans.

The month started with some familiar themes. The Trust announced it was to hold a quiz night and Issue 50 of One Step Beyond went on sale ahead of our Scottish Cup tie against first division outfit Inverness Caley Thistle. The team had been on a six game unbeaten run and there was every reason to hope we would be on our way to a Hampden semi-final by Saturday evening. Unfortunately we were to lose a goal after ten minutes and never recover.

Happy fans at Parkhead
Derek Adams opened the scoring at Parkhead and Larsson's equaliser resulted in a share of the points to let us consolidate fifth place in the table.

Bryan Jackson and his team made an offer of 20p in the pound to the creditors and they accepted in the middle of the month. The road to normal financial business was now open and we would soon emerge from administration.

We were well into spring but the
Fir Park pitch was in the news again when the game against Hearts on March 20 was postponed because the park was awash. Sound familiar?

The month ended with a midweek jaunt to Easter Road where we were fortunate to take a point after falling two behind but the 3-3 draw provided plenty of entertainment. We were unlucky to lose to the only goal at Tannadice on the 27th and after 29 games we were in sixth place. Butcher and Malpas were in high regard and we held on to that top six place at the end of the season. It was a fine achievement for a club which had said farewell to McFadden and Pearson. The emerging talents included Clarkson and Quinn. Mainstays were Hammell, Craigan, Partridge and Corrigan, supported by the 'seniors" - Marshall, Adams and Burns.

It's amazing how the memories flood back!
