Morton Preview

Morton will prove tough opposition as they will be high on confidence after three successive wins – including a 3-0 away victory on Saturday.

Thankfully there will not be ex-Motherwell players there to come back to haunt us but Morton should have won promotion last season and they have a number of dangerous players.

We have no new injuries to worry about after the weekend with Paul Quinn and Brian Kerr being long term absentees. Terry will either decide to keep the same XI in a bid to introduce stability and (hopefully!) a winning mentality but he could also use the game to experiment. Alex Burns might fancy his chances of a much needed goal whilst this could be a good game to see how Marc Fitzpatrick and Richie Foran perform in a competitive game.

The League Cup has not been kind to us in recent years (about 15!) and to say a good run is due would be a massive understatement. We have not progressed past the quarter finals since the 1980s and along with some humiliations (Alloa, Airdrie, Forfar, Raith Rovers) there have been several close calls (Inverness, Raith Rovers, East Fife, Clydebank). We will need to perform to the best of our ability to win tomorrow – but if we do play well, we have nothing to fear.

There might be some scary moments on the way but we’ll get through: Morton 1-2 Motherwell.
