Motherwell score five in Darlington

Motherwell continued the pre-season build up with a comfortable 5-1 win against National League Darlington.

We raced into the lead when Kipré and Johnson found the net to establish a 2-0 lead inside ten minutes.  This was the first pre-season game for our opponents and the difference in fitness levels was apparent.

Campbell was on hand to finish Johnson’s knock down after 35 minutes to deliver a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Stephen Robinson had suggested that we would be stronger for this friendly and he was right.  The players sported the splendid all claret away strip for the first time and no doubt the ‘Well shop will see a surge in orders on Monday.

Darlington made three changes as the teams returned as Turnbull replaced Campbell.  We conceded a goal when Saunders ran in on Carson from the wing to make the score 3-1.

We made half a dozen changes around the hour but Darrlo old boy Bowman remained on the pitch to make it 4-1 with a chip over the ‘keeper.  A fifth arrived with 90 minutes on the clock and Scott added his name to the list of scorers.

The squad will next be in action when they face Dunfermline at East End Park on Thursday evening.

The Betfred cup kicks off on Saturday but Motherwell will not enter the competition until Edinburgh City visit Fir Park on Tuesday 17 July.
