The knockout stage of the League Cup has given Motherwell an away trip to Dingwall. The teams have never met in this competition.
Given that we have to play Rangers next Sunday in the opening league fixture it points to Wednesday 9 August as the date for this fixture.
Motherwell's recent record in all cup competitions has been a major disappointment. The League Cup has had pride of place in the Fir Park boardroom only once, in 1950, and we have come nowhere near in the last decade. Last season's exit came after a 5-0 drubbing at Parkhead in the first game after the group stage of the new Betfred format. Earlier departures at the hands of Morton and Hamilton (after penalties) are best forgotten.
