On this day - 'Well score 5 and lose

Aberdeen had failed  to win any of the nine league games prior to their trip to Motherwell and a 7-0 drubbing at Parkhead four days before this match gave little indication of what was to unfold.

A deflection off Thomas started the party and then Winters’ scored to leave us two down inside the opening ten minutes.  We suffered a further blow when Doesburg was fouled by McAllister and Craigan appeared as an early substitute.

Spencer scored to get us back in the contest but goals from Winters and Jess seemed to end the contest.  Goodman got what looked like a consolation before half-time and we were left to wonder what the next 45 minutes would bring.

Winters claimed his third on the hour but we fought back with a reply from Spencer.  With 20 minutes to play Bernard made it 6-3 but Spencer and Teale ended the scoring to produce a breathless 6-5 win for Aberdeen.

A hat-trick for Spencer

Managers Skovdahl and Davies struggled to sum up the game that featured Goram and Leighton  picking the ball from the net eleven times.  But we took heart from the experience and embarked on a seven game unbeaten run that included six wins with home and away wins over Celtic.

Motherwell were to finish the season in fourth place with the Dons at the bottom of the table.
