St Mirren: 24h on

Both the manager and players commented after the game that they enjoyed playing on the excellent surface at the new stadium.  Despite the days of heavy rain in the pitch still looked perfect at the end of the match.  We have to hope that the hefty expenditure planned to reconstruct the Fir Park pitch is able to deliver a comparable surface.

It was a very positive team which took to the field.  Clarkson, Murphy, Sheridan were up front with a three man midfield of O’Brien, Lasley and Hughes as the supply line.  Although the high quality flowing football that was such a feature of last season was never on show, there were more passes completed than for months.

We have a midweek encounter with Inverness to entertain us on Wednesday evening.  It will be difficult for the players to deliver as many passes on the Fir Park surface but the manager is committed to attacking football and with the visitors desperate for points there could be some thrills.  In any event it will be good to see Terry Butcher back on the touchline.  He deserves  a hearty welcome from the Motherwell support.
