‘Well opened the scoring on 12 minutes after some excellent play on the right wing by Offiong, skipping past two covering defenders his cutback was prodded home by Clarkson at the second attempt. Ryan Esson was injured in the process and had to be replaced.

Pearo got a run out
An Aberdeen equaliser wasn’t long coming and on twenty minutes Scott Michie had levelled. Ross Ballantyne will have been kicking himself after his misplaced pass allowed Aberdeen to start a move inside Motherwell’s half that Michie finished off expertly.

On the half hour Craig had an effort harshly chopped off after the ref ruled he’d had a tug at an Aberdeen defenders jersey. The defender had misjudged the flight of the ball allowing Craig to get in behind him and finish confidently from the edge of the area.

Five minutes later Craig should have been tapping into an unprotected net, but Clarkson who did well to intercept a short pass back couldn’t pick out Craig with his low cross.

Motherwell weren’t made to wait much longer for a 2nd. An excellent David Clarke cross picked out Offiong arriving at the back post and he confidently headed past Aberdeen’s replacement keeper.

Within 5 minutes of the 2nd half Motherwell had extended their lead, McDonald converting from the spot after Clarkson had been felled in the box. Clarke had beaten his man out on left flank and looked to pick out Clarkson with a low cross only for Clarkson to be impeded.

After 70 minutes Aberdeen pulled a goal back with Scott Michie grabbing his 2nd of the night beating the offside trap latching on to a Leon Mike through ball and shooting past Woods at his near post.

Motherwell created a few more chances with Pearo making a couple of mazy runs but no more goals were added and the home side went away with the spoils.
