Mike's Moan: It's Time For A Change

but no… it was from our very own Maurice Malpas who has a worse record than the British representative at Eurovision.

Although some might disagree, when it comes to Motherwell FC I am usually very positive, the eternal optimist, who thinks we can achieve great things at the start of each season. I never shout at the players on the park, as I believe even the worst players (and we do have a few) need our support .

But even the everlasting optimists left the ground on Saturday agreeing with every word that was being shouted from all corners of the ground. Malpas Malpas … It's time to leave.

The best word to describe our current manager is dour, and I for one do not believe he cares enough about our club. The smile in the interview after the humiliating defeat at East End Park said it all, but then he tops it all be criticising the fans after the game on Saturday. He should have been apologizing to the fans for the embarrassing defeat, apologizing for the terrible season we have had, and apologizing for not being able to put a half decent team out on the park.

But instead he comes out with some rubbish saying that he is thick skinned and not going anywhere - what a way with words our manager has. We have only just beaten the drop after being 16 points clear not long ago, we have not won a game for months, but good old Maurice has a go at the fans for being angry. Time for a reality check.

Motherwell are never going to be a team full of world beaters, we are going to have a mix of youngsters and average players which are manager needs to motivate so they play above themselves. People can criticise Terry Butcher, but for the most part he did this. Maurice Malpas and Paul Hegarty are incapable of doing this and I believe the players are not playing for them.

It seems we are in the midst of a takeover of the club, which will hopefully see us move in a new direction. John Boyle has lost interest and too many at the club are simply going through the motions. The PR side of the club is probably the worst in the SPL, with the fans being given virtually nothing back for their support.

This is simply another reason why Malpas has to go, we cannot afford to take a hangover from this season into next or we face the real prospect of relegation. We need a new face, with new ideas to take the helm. We need someone who is positive, who can motivate the players and motivate the fans through the press.

A huge decision is looming for the new owner, let's start the new regime on a high and appoint a new manager who the fans can relate to. All of us at Motherwell like our heroes, such as Davie Cooper, James McFadden and even to a certain extent Terry Butcher. For the club to move onwards we need a new face to love in dugout…. As the face that's there at the moment is simply not good enough for our Football Club.
