Fair shares at the Falkirk Stadium

Motherwell and Falkirk were unable to find a goal between them and had to settle for a draw.

Both managers will be frustrated at the outcome.  Falkirk had more of the ball in Motherwel’s last third but could not break through.  At the other end chances were few but one or two should have been converted.

There were three ‘Well changes as the manager continued what seems to be a system of squad rotation.  Tom Sparrow, Oscar Priestman and Ibrahim Said joined the line-up.

Falkirk showed early how they intended to counter Motherwell’s build up from the back plan.  They pressed high and with energy.  They produced the first attack of the evening immediately. Alfredo Agyeman powered down the right and elected to shoot rather than pass.  His effort narrowly missed at the far post.

Motherwell’s best opportunity in the first half came from Emmanuel Longelo.  He charged in from the left wing and fired from a narrow angle but the woodwork blocked his effort.

The game was tightly fought and players had little time on the ball.  Falkirk knocked Motherwell off their flowing game. By the interval the smart money was on a draw as neither side could get control.  Defenses were on top.

Tawanda Maswanhise had a quiet evening but a good chance was offered to him a minute after the restart.  He gathered a loose ball in the centre of the penalty area but could not fashion a decent shot and the ‘keeper stood tall to block the weak attempt.  Said was next up to fluff his lines when he failed to connect from the penalty spot.  A chance missed.

Both sets of fans urged their teams on in the hope of finding the goal that would surely win the contest but, again, defences stood firm and the game petered out goalless.

Motherwell will hope to do better when Livingston come to Fir Park on Saturday.
