Motherwell Dismiss Poor United

Martyn Corrigan made a welcome return and he wore a heavy strapping on his left arm. His presence contributed to the clean sheet and it was good to see him providing an eager outlet for Marshall to balance Hammell’s efforts on the other wing.

Corrigan knows the score!

Partridge and Craigan were never troubled and it was the Welshman who opened the scoring with a simple, unchallenged header from inside the six yard box from a set piece cross.

There were a few attempts on goal from either side before the break. We had a blast from Hamilton just missing the postage stamp and McDonald shot weakly at the keeper after a good twenty yard run. The opposition, though, would be less than impressed that they had failed to score. Firstly, a weak clearance from Hamilton produces a stramash in front of our goal then, in the closing minutes, we rode our luck. Crawford hooked a scrambled chance just wide of Marshall’s left hand post and moments later the keeper was caught out at the ball came off the bar.

Partridge scored today

United were killed off straight inside the first minute of the second half when a slip by Archibald presented McDonald with the ball thirty yards from goal. He ran in without hindrance to the area and side footed the ball beyond Bullock and into the net.

The game was dead and despite Robson missing a golden chance Marshall had little to do in front of the South Stand.

With the other results going our way we find ourselves six points clear of killie and the gap to Hearts has narrowed to four. Look out Robbo, the Mighty ‘Well are coming to get you!
