Motherwell score three against Queen of the South

Motherwell opened their Betfred Cup campaign with a 3-0 win in Dumfries.  Liam Donnelly, Sherwin Seedorf and Jermaine Hylton scored the goals, all in the second half.

The visitors started the game with five of the summer recruits on the pitch but that number was soon reduced when Chris Long suffered a knock to the jaw before the players had worked up a sweat.  James Scott came off the bench.

The contest was still even at the break but the half-time team talk had the desired effect.  Hylton and Seedorf joined the fray soon after the restart and the game was now in Motherwell’s control.

The opener came in 71 minutes following a penalty award that followed a foul on Hylton.  Donnelly placed his right footed effort to the corner of the net to break the deadlock.

Our domination finally got its reward in the final minutes.  Seedorf claimed his first professional goal with a shot to the top right corner before Hylton shot to the same corner from outside the box for the third.

The other match in the group resulted in a 1-0 win for Dumbarton over Annan Athletic.

Next up will be a Friday night meeting with Morton at Fir Park.
