A fine performance from Motherwell produced a 3-0 win against
Havnar Boltfelag and a 5-0 aggregate win in the Conference League.
It was evident early on that the Steelmen’s approach to the
game would be the familiar passing style that served so well last season. They overwhelmed the Faroese side and now
face Helsinki in the Conference League third qualifying round.
After early resistance from the home side, there was little
to trouble Motherwell as they found their rhythm. Any nerves (if any) were dispelled midway
through the half when Willy Vogt cur into the box from the right wing. He was tripped and the Estonian referee did
not hesitate before awarding a penalty.
Lukas Fadinger slammed the ball home.
The opening half came with three golden chances for Regan
Charles-Cook. The first came after ten
minutes when a ball over the top from Ibrahim Said offered a run in on the
‘keeper but the close range effort was blocked.
A chance for the second goal came from the right, again close in,
and again blocked. Persistence paid off
and his run in from the left let him find the net as the goalie made a gap at
his near post. ‘Well were two up at the
break and the contest was over.
Any linger hopes for HB were ended five minutes into the
second half when Dylan Williams advanced from the left to drive low into the
net from the edge of the 18 yard box.
Alfred Johannson had the freedom to pick and choose his
substitutes. Among them was a first
appearance of the season for Tawanda Maswanhise. The striker got a valuable twenty minutes as
he works his way to full match sharpness.
HB kept plugging away and but for some poor finishing they
may have got a reward.
Motherwell travel to Easter Road on Sunday for the league
opener before another northerly journey on Thursday for the first leg against
HJK Helsinki.
