Eythor
Bjorgolfsson, a 25 year old Norwegian striker, has been confirmed as
Motherwell’s first signing in the winter transfer window.
The
6’3” forward had opted to use a release clause to leave the Swedish club Umea
when they were demoted from the Superettan.
He had twenty nine appearances and fifteen goals in the season that
ended in November including a hat-trick in the last game.
Motherwell
fans have been thrilled with the style and success on show so far this campaign
yet there is a universal acceptance that the squad needed a striker. Callum Hendry has yet to score in the league
despite fifteen appearances and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos was not been selected
in any of the first three games in 2026.
Bjorgolfsson
passed his medical on Friday and was in the stand to see Motherwell overcome
Ross County on Saturday. He joins on a two and a half year deal.

Speaking
to the club website Jens Berthel Askou said, “
“Watching
him extensively, getting really good recommendations through our network in
Scandinavia and looking at his standout data, we strongly believe that Eythor
will be a valuable and strong addition to the team.
“He’s
taken a different route than most younger Scandinavian talents, but his
determination, resilience and steady development have led him to an exciting
time in his career. We are delighted that he has chosen Motherwell FC, Fir Park
and Scottish football to be his next stage.
“We
look forward to seeing the output of his physicality and strong presence in the
box in combination with our ability to produce chances.”
Welcome to Motherwell Eythor and the best of luck.
