Calum Ward
has been sold to QPR. He played a major
part in Motherwell’s marvellous season and he will be hard to replace.
He joined
without a fee eighteen months ago but did not claim the number one spot until Jens
Berthel Askou selected him as his top ‘keeper last July. Whispers suggest Motherwell will net around
£800k for the transfer.
Despite the
much reported loss of a goal against Clyde when he was stranded and lobbed, he produced
twenty clean sheets and demonstrated growing confidence with the ball at his
feet. His ability to adapt to the new
adventurous style was key to the team’s success.

He follows
Sieb Dyjkstra who made the journey from Fir Park to Loftus Road in 1994.
His final
message to ‘Well fans as the club reported his departure is “A special club
that I’ll always be a supporter of.”
Alfred Johansson
and Nick Daws will have been preparing for the departure of some of their key
players and it may be that Ward could be followed by others before the window
closes at the end of August.
Motherwell
fans will get a first chance to see the team in Action at Fir Park when Genk
provide the opposition on Friday 17 July.
