Motherwell
must maintain high standards as they face a tough run to the season’s end.
With seven
games remaining the Steelmen have a six point hold on fourth place in the
Premiership but know that nothing other than their best is needed to do justice
to a wonderful campaign.
None of the
claret and amber band who watched Jens Berthel Askou in charge of his first
competitive outing back in July could have anticipated the revolution that was
to unfold over the following months.

Clyde were
gifted a goal in the League Cup opening fixture when the stranded ‘Well ‘keeper
could only watch as the ball flew over his head into the empty net. Nervous chat in the away stand at New Douglas
Park feared that the new style might end in tears. A draw and a successful penalty shootout kept
us in the competition and the team began to build confidence.
The league
started with an impressive performance against Rangers
that probably deserved more than the point earned with Emmanuel Longelo’s
equaliser. That game demonstrated that
the players had backed the manager and in the coming weeks they grew and grew.
As the
season reaches its climax there is widespread acceptance that Motherwell have
been superb as they dominated match after match. Supporters of long standing confess that they
have never witnessed such sparkling form.
Some
statistics tell the tale; top goalscorer (Tawanda Maswanhise), most assists
(Callum Slattery), most clean sheets (Callum Ward), most goals/shots on target
(Elliot Watt), lowest yellow cards and lowest goals conceded.
A place in
the top half of the table is regarded as the sign of a successful season for
the Motherwell faithful. Yet on this
occasion anything short of fourth will be seen as taking the shine from an
outstanding year.
A further step in this remarkable season can be taken next weekend when Falkirk come to Fir Park.
Come on ye 'Well
