Motherwell can have no complaints as they lost to their bogey
opponents Falkirk.
A second half goal from newly fielded substitute Henry
Cartwright was enough to give the home side a 1-0 win. They had the better chances and managed to
convert one.
An unchanged Motherwell eleven faced a team they had yet to
beat this season and the game started as expected. Both teams were happy to keep the ball on the
deck and make passes as they probed for a telling opening. There was lots of end to end fast paced play.
Barney Stewart must have sat down at the break wondering how
he had not scored. He was twice through
on Callum Ward but a high shot and a side net followed. The last action of the half gave him a
bizarre opportunity. Paul McGinn rolled
the ball back to Ward but a fumble gave Stewart the ball a yard out. His attempt was headed clear by the grounded
goalie.

At the other end Emmanuel Longelo fired a powerful effort
that was palmed away by Hogarth.
The best achievement must be credited to the Motherwell SLO. His persistent negotiation with the stewards
eventually secured a better view for those disabled fans who had been offered a
cluttered view behind the perimeter fencing.
Motherwell suffered from the usual complaint. Good play up to the final third then a
paucity of scoring options. Time and
again the ball was worked down the right flank to be followed by a low drive
cleared by the defence.
Cartwright claimed the win two minutes after his
introduction. Motherwell lost possession
in the attacking half and had to scurry back.
The substitute finished with a low shot from Ward’s right.
A last gasp equaliser almost snatch a point following a
corner but Stephen Welsh’s header was kept from crossing the line as it struck
Callum Hendry.
A disappointing afternoon ended with Jens Berthel Askou
leading his players to applaud the travelling fans.
