Motherwell
aim to redevelop the Dalziel Sports Ground training facility into a purpose
built centre for professional football.
Plans were
submitted to North Lanarkshire Council in March following consultation with
planning officials. It has been a long
term ambition to have access to a site that satisfies the needs of a top flight
club and the details of the proposal are now available on the NL
planning website.

From the Design Statement
At present
players have to commute from Fir Park to the Dalziel site and return for
changing and showers. The new building
will provide changing rooms, a gym, offices, treatment room, canteen,
analysis and meeting rooms and an overview of the pitches from a balcony.
One of the existing
grass pitches would be converted to a modern artificial surface.
The benefits
of having all the training on one site are obvious. The improved facilities would also cater for
the women’s team and the academy. The
reduction in travel and running costs would be an additional boost.
Consultation for is now open but the scheme would not need any new access roads or
traffic changes and the existing community use would continue.
Details of the cost to the club have not been revealed and no details were announced at the recent AGM. Club finances have improved in the last few years with significant transfer income and this proposal would be a sensible investment.
