The summer transfer window has closed with the late arrival of Stephen Welsh. Motherwell can be happy with their business.
The window was already open when Jens Berthel Askou was appointed to the Fir Park hotseat in mid-June. He and his backroom team deserve credit for their delivery of a comprehensive turnover of the squad with little preparation time.
Jordan McGhee’s move from Dundee was already in the pipeline but the sourcing and assimilation of an impressive midfield group has been a masterstroke.
The last piece of the jigsaw was completed on the final day when a season long loan was agreed with Celtic for the 25 year old central defender Stephen Welsh.
His addition is the twelfth new face in the Fir Park dressing room and the manager now has around 32 in the first team squad.
