Motherwell
take a two goal lead to the Faroe Islands on Thursday as they look to progress
to the next round of Conference League qualification.
Goals from
Martin Moorman and Lukas Fadinger in front of a huge home support gave the
Steelmen a commanding advantage in this two legged tie. Alfred Johansson has stressed that the tie is
not yet won and that “you win zero games at half-time”.
There was a
new look to this Motherwell side with a mix of imports, youth players and some
familiar faces as they played the first competitive game of the season. The manager may have a boost if one or two of
his more experienced players are able to make the trip north. Alex Lowry, the latest recruit, is not
eligible for this game.
Fans who
follow the team to Torshavn will hope for the early goal that would surely
settle the tie but they will expect the home side to be more adventurous than
they were at Fir Park.
HB play on
an Astroturf surface and that may influence Johansson’s selection. He will have in mind that his squad face Hibs
at Easter Road in Sunday’s league opener.
Bookings
have already being made for the likely trip to Helsinki and a 2-1 win would
justify the optimism.
