Next up - a Halloween visit from St Mirren

Motherwell and St Mirren meet at Fir Park on Saturday with both looking to improve on midweek draws.

As the second phase of league fixtures gets underway Motherwell find themselves at a disappointing tenth place in the table while St Mirren are seventh.  The Steelmen need to improve if a top six aspiration is to be met.

There were indications in Perth that Motherwell had regained some of the fluency that was evident in the first few weeks of the season but once again weakness in defence led to lost points.

Encouragement came from the sparkle of Ibrahim Said and the return to the score sheet of Tawanda Maswanhise.  It was a joy to see the smile on the Zimbabwean’s face after his well taken goal.

Alfred Johansson fielded an unchanged eleven but the return of Lukas Fadinger and Regan Charles-Cook from the bench may foretell a couple of alterations to Saturday’s line up.

St Mirren shared the spoils with Hibs on Wednesday in a game that was pasted for its lack of entertainment.  The Saints needed the gift of a late own goal to earn them a home point.  Craig McLeish echoed that general opinion but he was pleased with what he suggested was a solid defence.

Killian Phillips has scored three of their twelve league goals and he will likely be paired with Eseosa Sule up front.

The teams met in Paisley in August and it was a thriller.  Jardell Kanga, on his ‘Well debut, produced a terrific strike in added time to secure the 3-3 draw.  A repeat of that score is unlikely but if the hint of an upturn in the Steelmen’s fortunes bears fruit than we may enjoy a squeaky 1-0 win.
