Motherwell
travel to Perth on Wednesday in need of a result to stop the rot.
As concern
grows in the corridors of Fir Park as the run of defeats lengthens eyes
turn to the game against St Johnstone.
Could this be the turning point for Alfred Johansson?
The latest
setback came with a 2-0 loss to Hearts on Sunday. Despite the result there was a general
recognition that the Steelmen stuck to their style and created several scoring
opportunities. They were undone as
Hearts converted the chances offered by weakness in defence.
The absence
of Lukas Fadinger and Alex Lowry gave Dylan Levitt and Jordan McGhee staring
positions but the team looked at its best in the final quarter when Ibrahim
Said, Emmanuel Longelo and Jardell Kanga combined to serve up several tempting
opportunities that were sadly declined.

The team
needs someone to start scoring goals and for the defence to regain some of the
resilience that was so valuable last season.
Motherwell
were last at McDiarmid Park in August 2025 when a Fadinger goal in extra-time
won the League Cup tie. The Saints spent
the season in the Championship.
Simo
Valakari guided the club back to the Premiership with some style and the twelve
points gathered from the first ten games suggests they have made the transition
with ease.
Josh Fowler
has been a major influence in the St Johnstone team since he joined from
Queen’s Park in January. He has scored
six of their eleven league goals this season.
Kai Fotheringham will be unavailable thanks to Saturday’s red card at
Ibrox.
This game
is yet another in the ‘must not lose’ series that has dogged Motherwell in
recent weeks. Any point away from home
is valuable and a 1-1 draw would halt the slide.
