Motherwell are Tayside bound on Saturday to meet Dundee ahead of the
international break.
After Tuesday’s loss to Aberdeen Alfred Johansson felt that a quick
return to action was “the best thing that can happen”. He has a few days to work on some of the
issues that led to the heavy defeat.
The play from the back was too slow and predicable. Passes were either intercepted or failed to
reach their target as the opposition anticipated the build-up. The Dons had the better physical presence and
they grew in confidence as the rewards of their hard work became evident.
There were long spells of possession for the Steelmen in the
opposition’s last third but their ‘keeper notched up a clean sheet with very
little effort.
Dundee are a place and a point behind Motherwell yet they could have
been ahead had they held on to the lead at Tynecastle last week. They managed to concede twice and had Zan
Besir red carded in the final ten minutes to come away with nothing. Besir will be suspended on Saturday and he
will join a number of injured team-mates.
Stephen Pressley has listed a string of key players that are
unavailable. His relatively small squad
will be stretched for this meeting and consideration might be given to the
recall of one or two players who are out on loan.
Johansson’s team have to demonstrate that they can bounce back after a
couple of defeats. The game will be a
test of courage and skill. If they pass
the test they can return home pleased with a 2-0 win.
