Motherwell and Hibs
meet at Fir Park on Saturday for a clash of fourth v fifth in the league table.
The result of this
match could see Motherwell’s lead over Hibs range from three to nine points;
this is a six pointer.
Hibs missed the chance
to take a big bite out of Motherwell’s lead in the last couple of games. While Motherwell lost to Dundee and Celtic,
Hibs could only draw with Dundee and Livingston to nibble at the Steelmen’s
advantage. The home stands at Easter
Road expressed their disapproval following the goalless result last week.
Jamie McGrath, Martin Boyle and Elie Youan lead the Leith scorers’ list although there are others well able to make their own contribution. It’s the other end of the team that may cause Hibs’ fans more concern. They have conceded a dozen more than Motherwell.

Despite last weekend’s
result there will be no dip in the self-belief that has been the hallmark of
Motherwell’s season. The players know
that they played well and that the game at Parkhead turned on the second half
penalty decision. We can expect no
change in the brand of football that has delivered thrills and entertainment
under the influence of Jens Berthel Askou.
Stephen Welsh will
return to partner Paul McGinn in the centre of the back line. His loan barred him from facing his home
club. Stephen O’Donnel will move to his
wide berth. Tawanda Maswanhise must be
due a goal following two games without a return.
Eli Just was subjected
to some harsh treatment and it is to be hoped that a week’s recovery should have
him fit and ready for the visit of Hibs.
Together with the rest of his midfield colleagues Motherwell will hope
to replicate the dominance that had Hibs chasing shadows on their earlier visit
to Fir Park.
With home crowds up
and a big contingent expected from the east this promises to be an intriguing
contest at the old stadium. One goal may
be enough to tip the balance, 1-0 to the Mighty ‘Well.
