Motherwell will make the short trip to visit Celtic on Sunday afternoon and look to extend the long unbeaten run.
This will be a meeting of two sides yet to record a domestic defeat. Motherwell will be entitled to face their rich and powerful opponents with some confidence after an encouraging start to the season. Everyone is aware that the home side will be overwhelming favourites but Celtic will be aware that the Steelmen will offer strong resistance.
A draw at Parkead in 2023
The home side have a Europa League fixture with SC Braga on Thursday and no doubt Jens Berthel Askou will be an interested spectator. Celtic were held to a goalless draw against Hibs last weekend and despite their domination of the ball they were unable to breach the stuffy defence. Motherwell will hope that their passing game will result in a more balanced game.
The travelling fans will hope that the squad will be strengthened by the inclusion of some of the recovering players. Callum Slattery, Paul McGinn and Elijah Just must be close to a recall. Stephen Welsh, on loan from Celtic, will be ineligible.
All is not sweetness and light in the Parkhead camp. A fans’ revolt is growing and protests at the board’s reluctance to splash the cash are becoming a regular feature.
Team selections have been unsettling as various combinations have been employed with limited success. It could be argued that this weekend may present the visitors with an unexpected opening.
After half a dozen games Motherwell have more goals to their credit than Celtic. If that statistic remains on Sunday evening then the visitors will have taken at least a point, 1-1.
