Next up - Motherwell away to Dundee

Motherwell follow the road to Dundee on Saturday eager to strengthen their healthy hold on fourth place.

This game was due to played on a dark Wednesday evening at the beginning of February but thanks to a waterlogged postponement and a couple of cup defeats both sets of fans can enjoy a traditional Saturday with a 3pm kick-off.

Since then Motherwell have continued to build their successful campaign by taking ten of a possible twelve points and securing a top six place.  Dundee have earned half of that from the same opportunity as their top half ambition vanished.  It is no surprise that high flying Motherwell find themselves as favourites this weekend.

Jens Berthel Askou is a manager who has no fear of making changes to his weekly selection.  He has shuffled his pack to the extent of five or six but this may be an occasion when the report will be ‘no change’.

There were no reported injuries following the win against Dundee United and the team played with the now customary high level of positive possession football that has attracted praise from fans and foes alike.  Another clean sheet further advanced the impressive statistics that grow with the Steelmen’s progress.

Dundee needed an added time strike from Cameron Congreve to take a point from their meeting with Hibs last weekend.  That goal brought to eight the Dark Blues total in the last three games.  Had that rate been evident earlier in the season Dundee would be higher than their current ninth place although the loss of seven in those fixtures suggests a weakness in defence.

Simon Murray scored four of those goals and with Scott Wright back in the reckoning the home fans will be looking for a point or three.

Dan McFarlane will be the referee with John Beaton on VAR duty.

Motherwell’s mean defence may be punctured this week but with Tawanda Maswanhise and Eythor Bjorgolfsson backed up by Eli Just and Callum Slattery the travelling fans may return to Lanarkshire with a 2-1 win.
