Motherwell
visit Ibrox on Saturday aiming to extend the unbeaten early season run.
The
Steelmen will look to play Rangers with the same flair and attitude that have
served so well since the adoption of Scandinavian style. It has transformed the
outlook at the club and instilled a belief that those methods will bring
success.
For generations
Motherwell fans took the trip to Govan hoping for an upset and accepted the
grim reality that a close defeat was tolerable.
Now they have seen claret and amber celebrations in the away corner as
regular occurrences. Wins in each of the
last three seasons have ended the bogey.
They will travel with justifiable optimism on Saturday.
Celebrating his brace
Alfred
Johansson has led the team through a hectic schedule while coping with a heavy
injury list. As was evident on Wednesday
he now has a number of new faces available and is afforded the luxury of a
strong bench. Two wins and two draws with
a couple of clean sheets have given a positive start to the long campaign.
Although Rangers
have already failed to progress in two Uefa competitions they have managed to
beat Aberdeen and Falkirk in the league and sit a point behind Motherwell. As Derek McInnes has taken up the reins there
has been a big turnaround of playing staff and much heated debate surrounds
their prospects.
New striker
Kevin Kelsy may combine with Lawrence Shankland to offer a meaningful threat
but there is much concern expressed by their supporters about defensive
weakness.
A
fascinating afternoon lies ahead and there may be reason to cheer in the away
corner after a 2-1 win.
