Motherwell return from foreign fields for a trip to Paisley on Sunday.
After a Thursday evening in Freiburg and late night flight home Alfred
Johansson and his players have put thoughts of exotic trips away and instead
concentrate on the short trip along the M74 and M8.
St Mirren have made a decent start to the new season. They topped League Cup Group C but got
hammered 5-1 by Rangers in the second round.
Wins over Falkirk and St Johnstone place them high in the early league
table.
Craig McLeish favours more of a passing style than previous versions of
the Paisley side and he has been recruiting with that in mind. Almost a dozen new faces have been added
during this summer window including loan additions Calvin Ramsay from Liverpool
and Ismeal Kabia from Arsenal. A host
of departures included ex-Well players Mikael Mandron, Mark O’Hara and James
Scott while Eseosa Sule signed up.
Killian Phillips has been their match winner in the league with all
three of the Saints goals coming from him.
A series of fast turnarounds to accommodate Conference League fixtures
has put pressure on the Motherwell squad.
In addition a series of injuries to key players has restricted
availablilty. The worst of the crisis
seems to be over as a number of players are now in contention.
The latest and most high profile signing was unveiled on Friday. Jardell Kanga, a much rated 20 year old Swede,
has picked Motherwell as his move from the Finnish league. He made 22 appearances for Ilves and played a
last game for them a week ago. He’ll get
a taste of Scottish football on Sunday.
This will be a tough test for the Steelmen against the well rested
Buddies but a battling 1-1 may be considered a good point.
