Motherwell and St
Mirren start 2026 with a contest for three points at Fir Park on Saturday.
The visitors currently
trail their hosts by fifteen points but that may not be a true reflection of
the standings as the Paisley side has a couple of games in hand.
Stephen Robinson was pleased with his team’s second half showing at Ibrox on Tuesday but like Motherwell at the weekend they lost by a single goal margin. That defeat ended a December run of five games without loss to place the Saints tenth in the table.

Our first meeting with
St Mirren came in August, a goalless draw.
We’ll draw a veil over the match at Hampden in November. Mikael Mandron leads their scoring table but
St Mirren have the lowest goals’ total in the table.
Jens Berthel Askou
regularly refreshes his team especially when midweek games reduce recovery
time. He may consider restoring Stephen
Welsh to central defence as he was ineligible for the Celtic game. Tawanda Maswanhise, no doubt buoyed by his
goal against South Africa, has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and he
will likely take his place.
The New Year
celebration in the ‘Well camp will have been boosted by the wonderful win over
Celtic but that will mean nothing when Saturday’s kick off arrives. Robinson has already produced a successful response
to Motherwell’s playing style but Askou can be backed to find the counter.
The last eleven league
meetings between Motherwell and St Mirren have been close affairs with at most
one goal the difference. It will likely
be a another tightly fought encounter but Motherwell will take the points with
a 1-0 win
