Motherwell remain six points ahead of Hibs after a goalless
afternoon at Fir Park.
The game had hundreds of completed passes but few resulted in
goalmouth action. Neither team deserved
to take the three points.
Emmanuel Longelo’s enforced absence and Ibrahim Said’s move
to the bench made room for Stephen Welsh and Oscar Priestman. Hibs kicked off on a pitch that looked much
better after some exposure to spring sunshine.
As has become the custom Motherwell commanded the early
passages of play with a high degree of possession. Hibs made the best of any lax moments to
advance on the break but any crosses delivered were shepherded to safety.

Eli Just seemed to have benefited after Hibs lost possession
25 yards out. Priestman’s shot was block
and it gave Just the chance. He drilled
low and found the net. Celebrations were
soon silenced after a long VAR check concluded that an offside offence had
occurred.
The opener might have come a minute into the second half
following a low cross from Stephen O’Donnell.
Tawanda Maswanhise was perfectly placed but his poor contact gave
Sallinger an easy save.
That pretty much summed up Motherwell’s scoring opportunity. Hibs sparked into life and pushed forward
although they rarely threatened.
Motherwell continued to spray passes around but they lacked the ability to
cut through the Hibs well organised defence.
Both managers used their substitutes but the game petered out
without any goals. The gap between Motherwell
and Hibs remains at six.
