Next up - a season finale in Leith

Motherwell’s season ends with a crucial game at Easter Road with European football the prize.

After thirty seven games Motherwell are in fourth place, a point ahead of Hibs.  A guaranteed spot in the Conference League is theirs with a win or draw.  Around two thousand will travel from Lanarkshire to support the team.

It has been an outstanding campaign from Jens Berthel Askou’s side.  They have treated us to spectacular displays of classy football over the last eleven months.  Can they find the strength for one more challenge to claim a fitting reward?

We can leave analysis of Wednesday’s game behind save to note that for long spells Motherwell had Celtic on the rocks.  The untried defensive pairing of Johnny Koutroumbis and Stephen O’Donnell were comfortable in the face of the much fancied opposition but Stephen Welsh is now available and he will likely return.

Tom Sparrow and Emmanuel Longelo made endless runs along their touchlines in combination with their talented midfielders.  Can Tawanda Maswanhise find the net before the season ends?

Hibs have had an impressive burst of form with away wins over Falkirk and Rangers in this final week but they have to make the running on Saturday and that may offer room for Motherwell’s passing game to flourish.

Jamie McGrath has completed his two match suspension for serious foul play.  He and Martin Boyle each have eight league goals to their credit.

Motherwell have a win and a couple of draws against Hibs in this season’s account and a third draw will have the fans checking their passports  - 1-1.

Remember the last trip to Easter Road?
