8 to go

There's no doubt that our prospects seem to be much better after the recent WDLW sequence.  The awful LLLLLDLL run of games that started on New Year's Day led many to fear the worst for the Mighty 'Well but the belief that the newly enlarged squad was making progress was confirmed with the seven points from the last four outings.

The games before the split could see us edge up a place in the table and drag another team or two into the struggle.   First comes Saturday's trip to Kilmarnock before a Tuesday night meeting with St Mirren at Fir Park before the trio ends with us at Firhill.  Although the threat from the Paisley team cannot be dismissed, we would be in a decent position if we can overhaul Ross County before the split.  They have to face Dundee United and St Johnstone before a showdown with St Mirren.

The second half performance against Hamilton should convince the players that the manager's consistent positive attitude is not unfounded.  If we can come close to that level in next week's encounters we'll go into the split favourites to avoid a two-legged fight for survival.

What of the final five games?  Current form suggests that Hamilton may drop out of the top six to the benefit of Dundee and if that were to happen we may well play Accies (a), Kilmarnock (h), Partick Thistle (h), Ross County (h) and St Mirren (a).  If the fixture balance delivers us three homes and two aways we'll not complain.

The support given to the team during this crucial time will be important.  Regulars should try to encourage friends and family to add to the noise from the stands and ensure that those wearing the claret and amber know that the crowd are with them.
