A Draw at Hamilton

By Firparkcorner
Saturday, 19th July 2003
As far as the large travelling support was concerned, the positive aspect of the friendly against Hamilton was that the weather was very pleasant. Oh, and Derek Adams scored a smashing goal in the last few minutes to spare the blushes of the SPL side.

A 'Well attack
We all know that friendlies shed little light on the prospects for the forthcoming season (remember that we won all the pre season games a year ago) but this was not an entertaining way to spend a Fair Saturday.

Maybe the shock of Pearson's transfer request caused a shock to the dressing room that showed in the performance but it was difficult to believe that two divisions separated to day's squads.

We lined up with Corrigan, Craigan, Partridge and Hammell in front of Marshall in goal. The midfield was Lasley, McDonald, Leitch and Pearson and Clarkson and Burns were up front.

A police escort for Faddy's pie!
Accies took the lead in twenty four minutes when Thompson headed a corner in at the near post. There were no complaints fron the 'Well fans as the home side had been working hard and deserved their lead.

In the first forty five minutes we managed only one shot on goal when a Burns free kick was easily saved. Our main tactic seemed to revolve around the idea that a big punt up the park might find one of the strikers. It did not work.

Clarkson chased everything and applied himself with some urgency but sadly his team mates seemed content to enjoy the summer sun.

Another goal for Adams today
On the hour McDonald was replaced by Derek Adams and the change appeared to stimulate a change of pace. Lasley and Clarkson come close but it took an Adams rocket inside the last ten minutes to level the score.

Del had a blast from about thirty yards and the ball flew just under the bar. The keeper got a hand to it but the back of the net bulged and we were level. Adams scored both goals in the midweek 'closed door' game against Airdrie.

Craig replaced Pearson for the last ten minutes. Butcher admitted after the game that he was resigned to losing the midfielder and he hoped that it would be "sooner rather than later". He will not be sold cheaply.
