Ahead at Home

The usual saying trotted out by managers is that ‘we need to win our games at home’ and for the first time in a long while, Motherwell are beginning to do that with consistency. Of course, this article may prove to be the kiss of death to our current run!

But even if we do slip up against Partick Thistle on Saturday – not unexpected given our recent record against them – the current streak of five home wins in a row is to be commended. And, in the event Thistle record their first away win of the season, we must be able to maintain our confidence going into our crucial (home) quarter final with ICT.

This run of home form is unmatched since the start of the 1990/91 season (thanks Ricky!). On that occasion we defeated Morton and Clyde in the League Cup whilst taking care of Celtic, St Johnstone and Dunfermline in the league. Should we defeat both Thistle’s on the next two Saturday’s, we will have won an amazing seven straight at home, a feat unmatched since 1975.

Given that this season has already given us wins at Pittodrie, Tannadice, Easter Road and Dens, the good run of home form is acting as the icing on the cake. There is now no question of relegation and we are only a few more points off securing a top six place. Well done to all concerned!
