hughesHe has been training with the squad for a few weeks following his release from Norwich City and McCall will have had time to assess any contribution he might be able to make in claret and amber. Adding him to the payroll is unlikely to prove too much of a burden as Hughes will be keen to take the opportunity of any shop window as he waits for a longer term position.

Hughes was an influential player for us in that terrific season when Mark McGhee`s team provided so much entertainment. It looked as though he was about to sign for Hearts when Leicester City transfer listed him but we managed to persuade him that his home town would be the better move. His passing and dead ball skills gave him lots of goal assists and as the opposition were aware of his threat he drew midfielders. The resulting space provided space for his team mates to exploit.

His signing, he was 29 on Monday, gives his a chance to add to the 66 appearances he made between 2007 and 2009 before his 2 years at Norwich. Before that he had spells at Rangers and Leicester City.

It`s likely that he will travel to Aberdeen at the weekend though he will have to bide his time for a starting chance.
