Building for next season underway

The welcome news that Liam Grimshaw has extended his commitment to Motherwell is the latest indication that the club is well on the way to building the squad for next season.  Let's see what we have so far.

Goalkeepers:

1 Trevor Carson (2020)

20 Mark Gillespie (2020)

13 Rohan Ferguson (2020)

The pictures of Trevor Carson working with our Academy 'keepers recently published on the MFC website were encouraging and we hope that he will be fit for duty in the next campaign.  Meanwhile we are in the fortunate position of having an excellent replacement.  Mark Gillespie has played a vital part in our 2019 rejuvenation and we are lucky to have him.

Defence:

2 Richard Tait (2020)

6 Peter Hartley (2020)

18 Charles Dunne (2020)

22 Liam Donnelly (2020)

30 Barry Maguire (2020) (On loan to QoS)

Tom Aldred is the missing piece in our back line for next season.  His loan agreement with Bury ends in May and he must be high on Stephen Robinson's wish list.  His recent form has been outstanding and he would be a popular addition to next season's squad.  Christian Mbulu has made 9 first team appearances to date and may yet be the recipient of an extension.

Midfield:

14 Liam Grimshaw (2020)

8 Allan Campbell (2021)

28 David Turnbull (2021)

Much work remains to secure a sustainable midfield group.  Elliott Frear, Chris Cadden, Craig Tanner, Alex Rodriguez-Gorrin, Carl McHugh and Gboly Ariyibi (on loan from Nottingham Forest) will all depart at the end of May unless deals are agreed.  Some choices have to be made and new blood will be needed.

Forwards:

24 Danny Johnson (2020)

James Scott (2022)

The line up of forwards for July is very bare. We know of speculation regarding Jake Hastie and we can say farewell to George Newell, Ross McCormack and Conor Sammon.  Curtis Main has been a key figure it would be a surprise if we do not make overtures to retain him.  No doubt the scouting network is scouring the country for striking targets.

The current (2018/19) squad is listed here.
