Celtic Preview

The focus during the week has been on the off-field news regarding the club’s finances and, to some extent, that has overshadowed the excellent on-field performance offered by the team at Easter Road.

The headline writers did us proud in their reports of the Hibs game and rightly so. Clarkson thoroughly deserved his double and it was a fitting reward for the effort he makes in every appearance. Since last December the striker has played in over twenty SPL games - the young learn fast at Fir Park!

Jason Dair had the luxury of making his claret and amber debut for a winning team. Burns showed his experience by directing and encouraging the forwards while Leitch directed affairs in midfield.

Can we keep the momentum going at Parkhead? It will not be easy. Despite the players pocketing their second win bonus of the season and having a high level of confidence they will find a different type of opposition wearing green and white this week.

On the other hand, Celtic will be recovering from their Champions League setback in Munich and they have Agathe suspended following his red card award last week.

Our record in the east of Glasgow has not been impressive of late. We have to go back to October 1999 for our last haul of three points (that game was the week after the 5-6 Aberdeen score). We played most of that game with ten men (Teale was sent off) and Twaddle got the winner. Since then we have scored only one goal at Parkhead, Lehmann in a 3-1 defeat.

I suspect ‘Well fans will get more satisfaction reading the financial sections of the Sunday newspapers rather than reading the match reports about Saturday’s game. 2-0 to the home team.
