Chilly Weather Ahead

The Buddies ground passed a 9.30 inspection last Saturday to allow the game against Brechin to go ahead (much to the surprise of many) and the pitch was playable on Monday when Clyde were the visitors.

However, the met office forecast for the rest of the week lists nightly temperatures below freezing and daily temperatures just above zero. Those who spent time this morning scraping thick frost from car windscreens this morning will be able to testify to the winter chill which has arrived with the New Year.

St Mirren say that undersoil heating will be a high priority when they move to a new stadium to be built in Ferguslie Park. They have lost one game already this season to the weather when a game against Airdrie was postponed near the end of November.

Before - hot air balloon

While it may be sensible for ‘Well fans to keep next Tuesday free, just in case, we can hardly be too critical of the Paisley club. Our own record of pitch protection in recent years has not been very impressive. Many games were called off before our undersoil system was installed…..

After - hot water pipes
