Compo for Rossco

Fly the flag!
A report in the Western Mail quotes Cardiff chairman Peter Risdale; "We reached agreement quickly with Motherwell and there was no need for a tribunal. As soon as both sides were comfortable with the compensation we paid the money."

While welcome, the fee seems to be less than 10% of what we were offered for McCormack from Birmingham in January.

This suggests that Motherwell lost out on over £1m to keep his services as we pushed for the Uefa place last season.

While fans applauded the resolve of Boyle and McGhee in turning down the bid in the last transfer window it is apparent that we now have to pay the price.

With over a month to run until the transfer deadline at the end of August, McGhee has already been making remarks which suggest that he is less than happy at the unwillingness of the club to extend his budget to capture a targeted player.

He should be well aware that the guiding principle of our finances is that income should match expenditure. The days of gambling with the stability of the club are over. He knows what the budget is and he should do his best within that constraint.
