Corrigan Gets First Cap

The Scotland side actually made a semi promising start with Mark Wilson having a good hit blocked wide for a corner. That was about as good as it got though and the hosts made their superior talent count just moments later to open the scoring. After twenty minutes they scored their second – with Dundee ‘keeper Derek Soutar looking unimpressive again – and from then on the game was played at a much slower pace.

The Germans scored early in the second half to put the game beyond doubt but that was also the signal for 'Corrigan von FC Motherwell' to enter the fray. He had a quiet start playing as the right centre half but made an excellent interception after 66 minutes and showed why he is known as ‘Kaiser’ with a lovely bit of composed play to get out of a tight situation.

There was one scary moment when he missed a tackle at the half way line allowing the Germans to break but they could not finish the move off.

The Germans could have scored again but due to a combination of bad finishing, desperate defending and a friendly referee the game finished at 3-0.

Given some of Scotland's recent performances, Martyn has done his long term chances no harm with his efforts tonight. Let's hope he gets lots of rest before Saturday!
