Derry City to visit Fir Park for Gretna tie

Gretna had a sensational season last year not only strolling to the Second Division title but reaching the Scottish Cup Final. The entered that match second favourites but more than held their own against Hearts and could have won a fifty-fifty game before eventually losing on penalties. Brooks Mileson has subsidised the club during their meteoric rise and Motherwell may well be taking them on in the SPL next season.

Nevertheless, Hearts qualifying for the Champions League meant that Gretna were already guaranteed European football. Since Raydale Park is not UEFA compliant they will play their home leg at Fir Park – a chance for our club to make some rent money and for some Lanarkshire locals to see some European football.  When tickets go on sale, they will be available from Fir Park (and other outlets).

Derry provide the opposition for Gretna. They are in the UEFA Cup having won a European tie for the first time in over forty years by defeating IFK Gothenburg 2-0 on aggregate. This gives the Scottish side a great chance to progress.

Good luck to Gretna!
