FirParkCorner FC start season with a 3-4 loss

Last updated : 05 May 2021 By Mitch

Fir Park Corner kicked off the season with a home match against local side Bully Wee United.

The additions to the squad during the summer meant confidence was high and the team was keen for the big kick off.

corner2The game started with an even opening spell with the battle taking place mostly in midfield.  FPC started to take a hold of the match and found themselves in the lead when a through ball to summer addition Chris Jones was placed beyond the keeper at the 2nd attempt.  The Corner soon extended their lead with a well worked set piece.  A deep corner from the right by midfielder Stevie Taylor was met superbly by Ross Pate at the edge of the box who executed a brilliant scissor kick into the top corner.

It was an excellent way to open the account for the season.  The Motherwell side were pegged back by a well worked Clyde goal close to half time.   A delicate through ball was met by the forward and under pressure he slotted the ball beyond player manager Graeme Farmer.

The second half started in the same vein as the first, however it was Clyde who pulled themselves level.   A cut back from the wing found a Clyde player 6 yards out who turned his defender and neatly slotted home to draw the game level.  Taking on board the lessons learned from last season, FPC picked themselves up and soon found themselves on top again.   A through ball to Chris Beaton was finished with a delicate chip over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Clyde made some tactical changes to help them get back in the game and soon found themselves level.   A soft free kick just inside the Corner half was poorly defended and the Clyde forward had time and space to pick his spot in the bottom corner of the goal to bring the game level with 10mins to go.  As the Corner pushed to find a winner they were punished by some quick attacking play from the visitors.  A deflected ball through found its way to the Clyde substitute, who under pressure from captain Marc  Shevlin and goalkeeper Graeme Farmer, won the game for the visitors by stroking the ball home from 12 yards.

Starting 11 - Farmer, Archibald, Stevens, Shevlin, B.Jones, C.Jones, Warnock, Taylor, Preston, Pate, C.Anderson
