FirParkCorner FC off to Worldnet

Last updated : 18 July 2003 By Firparkcorner

FPC FC is a team made up of fans who organise games with opposition supporters over the internet. The games are usually played on the morning of senior matches but Worldnet is a one off event featuring teams from all over Britain.

A fine looking bunch of lads!

There are 64 entries this year and the teams are divided into groups of four. FPC FC will be taking on QPR, Celtic and local rivals Airdrie. The group games are played on Saturday and the top two teams go into the ‘cup’ competition on Sunday. The bottom two teams are entered into the ‘plate’ competition and face an 8am start after an inevitably gruelling Saturday night.

Last year FPC FC finished third in their group and went into the plate. A wonderful run on Sunday saw victories over Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United before a late golden goal saw the team denied in the final against Aberdeen.

Can they go one better this time? Probably not! However, winning is not the main aim of the weekend and a good time will be had by all as they mix and drink with supporters from all over the country.

Manageress Piglet has put in a lot of work over the year organising games for the team and her efforts are appreciated by all. The team definitely owe her a Smirnoff Ice or two in the bar later tonight!
